Girlfriend vs. the Mistress…

August 28th, 2002

I had an interesting conversation with my friend Sarah (and soon to be future co-worker at Johnson & Johnson) about my girlfriend, Caroline. Caroline’s in Seattle right now vising her parents, and won’t be back till Sept. 3rd.

Eddie: yeah I miss my baby… :-(
Sarah: awww
Eddie: hehe
Sarah: Haha… for the first time you’re talking about a girl, and NOT your car…
Eddie: you know, you’re right… LOL
Eddie: the ever so battle between the mistress (my car) and the gf has been won by Caroline… :-P
Sarah: hehe

And so it goes, that the ever so battle between every guy with the car that he loves and the significant other. Those battles usually last for a while, but the novelty of my new car has worn off. It’s 6 months old with over 15,000 miles on it. Yeah, I drive a lot… I stopped hooking up my car awhile ago. It was just the stereo I wanted to be nice, since I drive much

Crap… I was in the middle of typing this when I was im’ing and someone sent me a url. And bang… 40 minutes of typing wonderful stuff was instantly blown away. The back button could not save my words and thoughts, so no matter what I type here, won’t even come close to what I originally wanted to say…

Essentially, what I said was that the car was more of a distration for me, and that I only messed with it to get the stereo all nice since I drive a lot. After that I didn’t care, especially after I started the Tristate RSX Club, I realized I had the cheapest car… LOL The war between the mistress (the car) and the girlfriend, has been easily trump’ed by Caroline.

08/23: Atlantic City Trip with Caroline

Caroline and I spent last weekend at Atlantic city and afterward went to my parents place for a BBQ. My parents like her, so does my sis, and especially my cat. Why is this significant? Let me tell you…

My cat is friggin weird. She thinks she’s human. When our family eats at the dinner table she sits on a seat and expects to have a piece of whatever we’re eating. If you don’t she gets really pissed at you and starts screaming at you and gives you dirty looks. If someone takes her seat at the table she screams and will take it personally and will ignore you for the rest of the day. She thinks that she’s married to me or my father. She gets extremely jealous of females around either of us. She sleeps next to my dad at night and if my mom gets too close, she bites her! Back in high school, when my female friends came over to chill and watch tv, my cat wouldn’t let them pet her, and if they did, she’d bite them! Then she wouldn’t let them sit near me or talk to me. She’d start screaming at me and give dirty looks if I don’t pay attention to her when they’re over. So when Caroline came over and she let her pet her and didn’t bite her, that was something!

After our decision to cross that line between friends and become boyfriend-girlfriend, Caroline and I have been talking more candidly. Mainly what I was really curious to what was it about me that attracted her. In the past, these answers usually were in a certain category: my confidnce, success, drive, ambition, and direction in life. For her, it was quite different. She said that it was my character (as in my honor and personality). Since this is something that I pride myself most on, I took this as the best compliment I’ve ever received.

So what do I like about Caroline? Well there’s always the obvious. We share so much in common and get along so well. Then there are the specifics: she’s assertive about herself and doesn’t just “follow the crowd.” She’s someone who speaks her mind and has a sense where she’s going. She is loyal, honest, trustworthy, humorous, easy to talk to, compassionate, caring, down to earth, well rounded and intelligent. And she isn’t the insanely jealous type. This is important because for those of you out there who know, an overwhelming majority of my close friends are female (maybe 85-90%). These are the reasons why I like her. Also the fact that she likes exploring new restaurants, ethnic foods, and can sing, is a wonderful added bonus! If you’ve read my about me section for the last 3 years, these traits have been up there for the longest time. I’ve finally found them in my good-friend-turned-girlfriend, Caroline. Sweet Caroline… And that’s why I miss my baby (and no, I’m no longer referring to my car…)

Dammit… this is no way even near to the words I originally wrote… I guess it was more of the “in the moment” type writing where you write your best. Doh! Hopefully, I can get into that writing mood again and really write how I feel…
