Mom’s Cancer Update

September 25th, 2002

I got a call from my mother tonight regarding the CAT scans. The CAT scans revealed that the cancer didn’t spread to the vital organs (thank God), however, the tests on the lymph nodes still need to be done. That will happen next week on Tuesday where my mother will have a mastectomy (removal of the breasts). If the lymph nodes show that the cancer has spread, then she will probably have to undergo chemotherapy. However, it’s still promising in that if it didn’t spread to the lymph nodes, then just the masectomy will be all that’s needed. I pray that the latter is the case. In any event, seems like I already have the help of friends who have connections with Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center already offering help. This is great - amazing how help arrives when you need it most. I just hope it doesn’t go to that level though, because then I have to try to convince my mother to go to Sloan-Ket.

My aunt is coming down this weekend to help my mom out, so she’ll have company during surgery. Unfortunately, I have a conference I’m bound to on the day of the surgery, but I’m gonna try to go visit my mother after it’s done. I’m going to visit my mom after work on Thursday to spend some time with her before she goes to surgery.

My mom inquired on that I seemed to be taking this a lot calmer than I did the first time I heard it. I told her how Caroline, who’s been through a very similar situation with her family, calmed me down, and was telling me more about Cancer and things like that. Basically, giving me the facts and calming me down before I completely freak out and go nutso. I’m really appreciative that she’s here to help me through all this…

Anyhow, as for the court case in Poughkeepsie, basically I had all the paperwork to show that this case should be dismissed in that it didn’t meet prima facie. I managed to find the cop outside the courtroom prior to the trial, and talked to him. We discussed the situation, and I showed him my documentation. After him checking the original ticket, he thinks that he may have transposed the numbers since the plate #’s don’t match the car type. So he went to the prosecutor and had the case dismissed before it even went to trial… Whoohoo! It’s good to do some legal homework before going in to court. Prima Facie clause rocks!
