Swing Dancing Weekend

August 5th, 2003

Caroline used to be really into the swing dancing scene. Eventually she got bored of it though and stop swing dancing all together. However, this weekend, we decided to go swing dancing at JackRose on 48th and 8th Ave. The setup was typical of their weekly Friday swing dances…/ The way that this works, is that you get there early at 9PM if you’re a newbie and want free lessons. Since I’m a newbie, I opted for this free lesson. Everyone there who’s there for the lesson, stands in a circle partnered up as couples (you get paired with one initially there - need not have a partner to go). Interestingly enough, girls outnumber the guys here. They teach you a basic step, which everyone does, and then the females rotate to the next person down the line. Then they teach you the next step, rotate, and so on, until you learn a “mini-routine” type thing.

I’m not saying I’m a dance guru or any BS like that, but I do pick up dance steps somewhat fast. By that night, I had the steps I learned down pat, and was dancing with Caroline. However, I wanted more more more! I was not satisfied with the paltry amount of steps that I was taught, and Caroline taught me some more variations that I quickly mastered… Now we’re planning on trying Salsa… Yeeeeaaaaah!
