Never tell evil of a man, if you do not know it for certainty, and if you know it for a certainty, then ask yourself, 'Why should I tell it?'

Visited the Gates…

February 13th, 2005

Caroline and I went to go see The Gates at Central Park today. There were quite a few people there and it was a spectacle to see and to experience. Simple idea but grand since it is on such a big scale. Those gates are HUGE! I’ll try to put pictures up later but I think my memory card got corrupted. (@#$@#$ Sandisk!!)

We took the bus back home. On the bus there was this old couple who seemed to be very disgruntled. He said The Gates were a waste of his money, thinking it was his taxpayer dollars that paid for it, when the project was all independently funded by the artist himself (the artist recovers the cost through publicity, pictures, books, etc.). He also complained that The Gates blocked his view from seeing the trees… funny since the trees have no leaves on them anyway and the buildings seem to block the view of trees more than anything else in the city. They said they had no interest in it and it wasn’t anything special… they said “they all look the same.” I thought that was the whole point, haha… grumpy old people.
