SCCA Test & Tune AutoX
August 19th, 2005Today was the SCCA (Sports Car Club of America) NY Region’s Test & Tune autocross, and I went with my RSX. Now with new endlinks and a bigger rear sway, my car was ready for tight turning (on top of the other handling upgrades she has). My car isn’t fast, but she can turn.
I did 20+ runs (stopped counting), but that’s because I took a lot of brake as my tires got way to hot and could barely turn anymore. During that time I rode in a 205 hp vette, Lotus Elise, 4 Evo’s, 3 STi’s, among others. Definitely worth using a vacation day for! I was running time at 56 seconds, and shaved it down to 51.3 seconds by the end of the day. Evo’s/STi’s ran 44 seconds, the Elise did 42 seconds, and the vette 41 seconds. I do have have to say the STi’s LSD’s and differentials are a lot smoother than the Evo 8/MR’s. Riding in Kevin’s evo is insane.
However, the highlight riding in the Lotus Elise, that cornered so hard, the gforces slammed my helment side to side like a coin in a soda can. The vette though was soooo smoothe though, yet it was scary fast with dorrrriiiiffftuu! I have a new fond respect for vettes now.
My RSX is well balanced now after the rear sway upgrade. Neutral, and I know how to swing the rear around when I need it. (had to learn a few times where the break point was, so I spun out a few times). A few of the instructors on site told me my driving is smooth, but I’m getting owned in the slalom since I attack it too late (and lose a good 2 seconds on the course since there were 3 sets of them). More to work on! 7 seconds behind cars with double the horsepower, not bad.
