MueveloNYC Version 7!

August 22nd, 2005

Well the inner architecture/skeleton for my new website is up. Powered by the new Wordpress version 1.5.2! I orginally started looking at full content management systems (CMS) simlar to the PostNuke that I used to version 6, PHPNuke in version 5. The two top other candidates I looked at were Mambo, and e107. There were benchmarks out there and e107 was phenominal at keeping server loads low, loading very quickly, and had a ton of plugin support. Mambo is similar to e107, but wasn’t as quick, but had a very large user base. However, about 3 days ago, the development team forked. Having to deal with the PHPNuke fork and the PostNuke fork (where I migrated to PostNuke after it was clear it was far superior), I didn’t want to dump my eggs in a forking project just to have to go through the headache of migrating everything when a clear winner emerged as the best.

After talking with Rahat a bit, he asked my whats the deal with going with a huge CMS over Wordpress. My response was it didn’t have the features I wanted. After doing some more research though, I found that their plugins for wordpress development was actually quite active and in some instances had further development in some projects than the other CMS’s out there. Also I wouldn’t have to migrate posts once I move everything to wordpress since it can permalink and is extensible through XML/RSS, and thus can easily migrate to a new engine by feeding it. So here it is. I’ll add more later like my past posts, photo gallery, and a new about me section. More to come soon!
