I finally went through all my raw files and post processed them, so the pics of the Westminster Kennel Club Nationals on Valentines day in NYC (Madison Square Garden) are now up. Most of my shots were blurry due to low light, and the 50mm f/1.4 managed to catch some good ones although space was hard to work with in the back area. I’ll probably buy the EF 24-105mm f/4L IS as soon as I have enough money. For the pics click the icon in the left where the pic of the dog is.

Valentines day, I took Caroline to the 130th annual Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show at Madison Square garden. I don’t really like these shows, esp. when they’re on TV, but I know she likes them so we went. I decided to bring my camera and gear to occupy myself. Not many of the pics came out decent since there was a lack of light, and my telephoto lens isn’t exactly good stuff. Also it was very annoying to swap lenses between my EF 50mm f/1.4 USM to my Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 APO DG Macro telephoto lens. I did notice that many of the press photographers and WKC’s own staff photographers were using the coveted Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS lens. I chatted with a few of them on why they chose that lens over the faster 2.8 lens that only covers to the 70mm range, and they simply stated versatility, same sharpness (and sometimes better with IS), no monopod needed with IS (more mobility), and with such a wide focal range (24mm-105mm) you really don’t need to swap lenses as the lens can reach shorter telephoto ranges. I’ve been wanting this lens for awhile, and am saving up for one before the honeymoon. I also found this review of the Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS which explains why this could be the most versatile and perfect 1 lens solution for the Canon EOS system. I want one. I won’t have to switch lenses and only bring one lens to Hawaii!
For dinner we went to 11 Madison Park and went all out and opted for the 7 course tasting menu with a nice riesling wine. The meal is definitely do-able as a regular meal. The courses are smaller in size, but you still leaved stuffed. They also give you breaks between courses. Let’s put it this way. We started dinner at 6:30, and didn’t finish until after 10PM! Pic is up, and just click in the upper left thumbnail for full size.
Highly recommended!
What we got on the 7 course:
Amuse bouche: sea-urchin cappucino with crabmeat
Tuna “Cru”: Caperberries, Terre d’Olivier Extra Virgin Olive Oil and Fleur de Sel
Chowder: Lobster in Butter-nut Squash and spices
Hudson Valley Foie Gras Duet: Torchon & Seared with Tarte Tatin and Preserved Quince
Roasted Four Story Hill Farm Chicken: Yukon Gold Potato-Leek “Brandade” with Porcini Cream
Seared Arctic Char, with Black Truffle Vinaigrette, Salsify and Pea Shoots
Prime-Aged Côte de Boeuf: Swiss Chard, Potato-Fennel Gratin and Onion Rings
Chocolate Soufflé: Tahitian Vanilla Ice Cream and Hot Chocolate Sauce
Chocolate Tasting For Two: Hazelnut Millefeuille, Banana Crêpe Soufflé, Sacher Torte Hot Chocolate and Macaron Glacé
Petite fours
Yummy! Everything was simply phenominal, but that Foie Gras was by far the best I’ve ever had.

EDIT: Ok it’s official. This is now NYC #1 record of highest snowfall in one blizzard at 26.9 inches. Previous record was 29.4 inches during the blizzard of December 1947 (From Fox News on TV). I went out and took pictures, click the icon on the left for pics.
EDIT 2: A Yahoo Article talks about the official #’s I stated above. I’ll also add these to my cache if you press more below.
Man… NYC totally got dumped on last night. Over 2 feet of snow on the ground and it’s STILL falling as I post this. What in the world? We had such a mild winter that I guess we’re making up for the lack of snow all season in one fell swoop. I can look out my window and can’t see where the sidewalk ends and the street begins. It’s just a white cloud of snow. Kinda looks like a scene from the movie, “The Day After Tomorrow” looking down at the street level. I’ll try to get some pics, but here’s a nice article from Yahoo. Press MORE for my cache of the story.

LOL. Someone seems to have made a short clip on Yellow Fever for some class project or something. It’s quite amusing as it’s fairly true (the Indian guy’s explanation). Take a lookg at the video here. Done by a Cali crew called “Wong Fu Productions,” more info on their website here. For those who are unfamiliar, yellow fever is how most asians portray white guys dating asian girls and are frustrated since most white girls won’t date asian guys. LOL Get over it and grow some cojones fools. LOL
